How to recover from too much ‘peopling’ – Tips for Introverts

“Introverts live in two worlds: We visit the world of people, but solitude and the inner world will always be our home.”

― Jenn Granneman, The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World

We introverts are easily over-stimulated – when tired from working hard or from extended social periods, our brain doesn’t want to work anymore.

When you feel your energy depleting and your tolerance levels plummeting – don’t push yourself. Be gentle with yourself and follow these guidelines to recovery –

Give your brain a break – turn your tech and screens off, pat the cat, meditate – do things that require very little mental effort.

Reduce external stimuli – dim the lights, close the door, turn down any noise. Give your brain a chance to rest and recover.

Put off decision-making – decisions take a lot of mental energy – put off any big decisions until tomorrow (if possible).

Don’t think that if you rest, you won’t get back up.

You will … and you will rise with much more energy, clarity and peace.

Make yourself a priority – we often care so much for others and give so much that we deplete ourselves. In truth, we are better able to help others if we look after our own well-being first – you can’t draw water from an empty well.

It’s not selfish to give yourself a little self-love and care – that downtime to recover helps you be the best you that you can be.

“Create an environment that is conducive to your emotional and personal growth. Surround yourself with caring and positive people who support you, and reflect who you want to be.”             Steve Maraboli

This is so true, Sally. This is so me! I have to shut the world out to be able to recharge.
